Lanivet Inn manager Shaun German has toasted a fruitful festive season with the signing of yet another player with South West Peninsula League experience.

Striker Ben Bould has left Godolphin Atlantic in favour of a move to Lanivet where he will reunite with German, for whom he played under at Foxhole Stars.

Bould joins a squad boasting a number of other high-profile footballers from within the Duchy, with each of Zak Roberts, Leighton Carhart and Will Cherrill also deciding to join the Pandas from Peninsula League clubs of late. They join the likes of Liam Ames and Huw Morgan who, while being established players in the Lanivet Inn side, also carry bags of experience at a higher level, something which German hopes will lead his team to Duchy League and Cornwall Junior Cup glory this season.

“Ben is a good signing for us,” German said to the Voice. “He knows the league. He set it on fire at Foxhole. He knows how to score goals in this league so to get him over the line, as well as Zak Roberts, Leighton Carhart and Will Cherrill, it has been a very good festive time for us and strengthened the squad right up.

“He should be raring to go straight into our top of the table clash on Saturday. We have a totally different set up to the first time we played Altarnun. We had what I would say was the old Lanivet side. We have made a couple of additions and it has turned on its head. We have kept a good couple that I wanted from that side and they are surrounded by a lot more quality players.

“They understand how to win things and what it takes and that has shown in the last few results. I don’t do anything for nothing. If I have got to give up time with my family on a Saturday, I am not doing it to lose. It is all about having the right squad and doing things properly. I have done that from the start. We want to win the league, the cup and get promoted as champions.

“You think of Zak sitting in front of a good back four and Leighton who has come in to make that back four even stronger. Then, up front, we have brought Benno in to sit beside Chris Brown when he is available.

“We know that anybody we bring in now has to be of substantial quality or a lot better in their position than the players we have got. We are settled and have got what we need for the season but you never know in football.”

The aforementioned top of the table clash sees  German’s Pandas visit Duchy League leaders Altarnun this Saturday for a 2.30 pm kick-off. Three points would see Lanivet reach the summit, although their opponents do have the benefit of a game in hand.

The Lanivet manager, whose side haven’t kicked a ball in anger since December 12, did provide an ominous warning however, when saying: “I heard, within the next two or three weeks, we are going into a lockdown.

“That is a scary thing but is something that we can’t change. If it is what has got to be done for the better, then we have got to do it.”
